Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (usually abbreviated to CBT) is a popular and evidence-based type of talking therapy, used to support people in the treatment of common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. It focuses on helping a person build a greater understanding of the impact of their cognitions (thoughts), feelings, and behaviours. During CBT, your therapist will encourage you to talk about your difficulties and help you to understand and notice unhelpful patterns, to work on together. CBT can be viewed as a 'skills-based' and 'practical' type of therapy often involving between-session tasks, to help you integrate new ideas/skills and take back control of your life.
CBT has a strong research base in supporting the treatment of many common mental problems, including:
Generalised anxiety
Social anxiety
Health anxiety
Specific phobias
Agoraphobia
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
Low confidence
Low self-esteem
Body dysmorphia
Panic
Stress
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Grief, bereavement and loss
Depression
Eating disorders
Insomina and sleep problems
Hello! I’m Katie, Founder and Owner of Unearth Psychotherapy. I’m an experienced trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with over 7 years of NHS clinical experience, providing both short and long-term psychological interventions to support people just like you ages 16+ across Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
I’m a fully accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), the leading organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the UK. For you, this means you can be reassured that your therapy journey begins with a therapist that meets a nationally recognised standard of clinical excellence and follows strict codes of conduct. I hold a BSc Hons First Class Psychology degree, a postgraduate certificate (PGCert) in Primary Mental Health Care and a postgraduate diploma (PGDip) in Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapies. I have specialist interests in supporting those experiencing trauma, specific phobias and OCD symptoms. My knowledge and experience also allow me to supervise other therapists, both aspiring and qualified. I offer a welcoming space for anyone ready to re-claim their life and better understand their own relationship with their mental health.
Beyond the qualifications, I value making a genuine connection with everyone I meet on their therapy journey. I strive for this to lead my approach to our sessions. Sometimes, it's not all about the training; I believe it's so important to find the right person to start your journey with. Afterall, research strongly suggests that one of the most valuable predictors of mental health recovery is the therapeutic alliance and the relationships we build.
I look forward to unearthing a path forward with you on your wellbeing journey 🌿
